[00:13] ---
THE SONGS THAT ADD COLOR TO THE "UNITEUP!" ANIME
[00:14] ---
Narration:
Toshihiro Arisawa
[00:14] ---
onto the various songs

In this series, we have PROTOSTAR,
LEGIT, JAXX/JAXX, and Anela.
[00:31] ---
Moving all day & night
Sensitive to Search
[00:34] ---
These four groups weave
the various songs in the show.
[00:34] ---
ALLURE OF THE SONGS
[00:35] ---
It's okay, it's okay
as long as you're nearby
[00:37] ---
We will look into their charms, and bring you
a few interviews from the members
[00:41] ---
who actually sing the songs as well.
[00:42] ---
INTRODUCTIONS ALONG WITH MEMBER INTERVIEWS
[00:46] ---
Let's Start to "UniteUp!"
The Music's Journey
[00:46] ---
Let's Start to "UniteUp!"
The Music's Journey.
[00:55] ---
The various songs add color
to the "UniteUp!" anime.
[00:55] ---
THE ONE WHO WILL INTRODUCE
THE ALLURE OF A "UNITEUP!" SONG IS...
[00:58] ---
The first person to introduce their allure is...
[01:01] ---
AKIRA KIYOSE
VOICED BY
KIKUNOSUKE TOYA
[01:01] ---
I'm Kikunosuke Toya, and I voice
Akira Kiyose of PROTOSTAR!
[01:04] ---
BANRI NAOE
VOICE BY
RYOTARO YAMAGUCHI
[01:04] ---
I'm Ryotaro Yamaguchi, and I voice
Banri Naoe of PROTOSTAR!
[01:07] ---
CHIHIRO ISUZUGAWA
VOICED BY
AMON HIRAI
[01:07] ---
I'm Amon Hirai, and I voice
Chihiro Isuzugawa of PROTOSTAR!
[01:11] ---
Ready...
[01:15] ---
PROTOSTAR
Online singers, who were uploading their own singing to video websites,
turn into idols with infinite possibilities!
[01:16] ---
They were online singers who were
uploading their own singing to video websites.
[01:20] ---
But now, they're going to be idols!
[01:24] ---
The three boys with infinite possibilities
form PROTOSTAR.
[01:30] ---
Which song was chosen
by Kikunosuke Toya,
[01:31] ---
WHAT IS THE SONG CHOSEN BY KIKUNOSUKE TOYA,
VOICE ACTOR FOR AKIRA KIYOSE?
[01:33] ---
voice actor for
the main character, Akira Kiyose?
[01:37] ---
I chose the PROTOSTAR version
of "Howl! Crossfire."
[01:40] ---
This song is quite familiar
in the world within the anime.
[01:41] ---
Kikunosuke Toya's choice:
"Howl! Crossfire (PROTOSTAR ver.)" by PROTOSTAR
[01:45] ---
It's the theme song
for an anime called "Crossfire.”
[01:48] ---
Akira has always loved
the show "Crossfire,"
[01:51] ---
and you see him singing this
in the first and second episodes.
[01:54] ---
It's a really good song.
[01:57] ---
Yup.
[01:58] ---
It's a really important song
in the "UniteUp!" universe.
[02:01] ---
Right. This is the song that serves as a catalyst
for us three to get along.
[02:04] ---
- It’s a song about bonding.
- It's also an important key song story wise.
[02:08] ---
It was really good,
and then there's that ending!
[02:10] ---
That ending footage
was totally awesome, too.
[02:14] ---
How Banri and Chihiro have lived their lives
so far, and how they became online singers,
[02:18] ---
and ultimately how they become idols.
That pops up one cut at a time.
[02:22] ---
That sequence is telling its own story.
[02:25] ---
"Crossfire" is anime about baseball.
[02:27] ---
Was it "Cosmic Baseball"?
[02:29] ---
Yup.
[02:29] ---
So "Crossfire."
[02:31] ---
When I heard the demo I thought,
"Huh? Is this a song that really exists?"
[02:37] ---
That's how perfect it was. It sounds
like an anime song that would really exist.
[02:44] ---
And the lyrics too.
There's various words from baseball?
[02:47] ---
Even the word "crossfire" is baseball lingo.
[02:52] ---
I feel a passionate heart from the lyrics too,
so I really, really love this song.
[02:55] ---
You really were so hyped up
during the voice recording sessions, too.
[02:58] ---
That's right!
[02:59] ---
It's the most fun to sing this song, after all.
[03:01] ---
- It just has that real "anime song" feel to it.
- Yeah!
[03:04] ---
...to a shooting star will come true
[03:04] ---
The theme song for the anime "Cosmic Baseball Crossfire"
that Akira Kiyose has loved since childhood.
Lyrics and composition by Kentaro Sonoda,
who has created multiple sentai and anime songs.
[03:04] ---
"Howl! Crossfire (PROTOSTAR ver.)" by PROTOSTAR
[03:08] ---
Even if they're worthless and unreasonable
[03:12] ---
Now, My friends
can you still raise your arms?
[03:14] ---
Lyrics with a baseball motif link up
with the three members of PROTOSTAR
glimmering in their adolescence
as they take off towards their dreams.
[03:16] ---
If you can laugh at a carefree joke,
you've got a ways to go
[03:23] ---
Overflowing to the max
[03:24] ---
Especially in the chorus, the three sing together,
and they showcase a strong performance
with their combined voices.
Also take note of the passionate guitar solo before the final chorus.
[03:26] ---
Like a burning sun
[03:29] ---
Our now won't stop shining
[03:34] ---
My heart is shouting
[03:37] ---
Go and overcome yesterday
[03:39] ---
This moment in the roaring cheers
with you laughing
[03:48] ---
Crossfire put your glory on
and let loose
[03:54] ---
And about this song "Crossfire"...
[03:56] ---
Well, the original version
of the song is played
[04:00] ---
in episodes 1 and 3
before the opening theme.
[04:02] ---
The original anime version is sung
by KEIGO and KOHSHI from FLOW!
[04:09] ---
The original song of the anime within the show
is sung by KEIGO & KOHSHI from FLOW
[04:09] ---
Oh, thank you so very much.
[04:12] ---
It's like... I know them!
[04:14] ---
- Yeah!
- Of course everyone knows them.
[04:16] ---
We love stuff like this.
I mean, it's part of our generation.
[04:22] ---
Next, which song was chosen by Amon Hirai,
who voices Chihiro Isuzugawa?
[04:22] ---
WHAT IS THE SONG CHOSEN BY AMON HIRAI,
VOICE ACTOR FOR CHIHIRO ISUZUGAWA?
[04:28] ---
The song that I want to introduce
is "It's Okay" by KIKUNOYU.
[04:33] ---
Amon Hirai's choice:
"It's Okay" by KIKUNOYU
[04:34] ---
- It's Kiku's song.
- That’s me!
[04:36] ---
You know, this song
was originally on YouTube.
[04:40] ---
The full version of the song
by KIKU was uploaded.
[04:42] ---
And then, it was used as
the ending song for the first episode.
[04:47] ---
And when I listened to just the song, I felt at first that the lyrics felt like they were talking about romance.
[04:51] ---
But in the first episode, the friendship
with Kacchan is conveyed so well.
[04:56] ---
Then you see the ending sequence
after that.
[04:58] ---
KIKU's singing voice,
that gentle singing voice,
[05:02] ---
and those lyrics that just sound like
you're snuggling up.
[05:05] ---
It was a great match.
[05:07] ---
Really? Thank you very much.
[05:09] ---
It's a song that everyone
in the "UniteUp!" universe knows.
[05:13] ---
- Right.
- That’s right.
[05:14] ---
It may have been a song that viewers
heard for the very first time.
[05:17] ---
But in that world...
[05:18] ---
In the world of "UniteUp!" it's a famous song.
[05:21] ---
And speaking of sounds...
[05:23] ---
That sound of mouse clicks in the intro.
[05:28] ---
I know!
[05:29] ---
- It's there.
- The clicking sounds.
[05:30] ---
It makes you wonder.
[05:31] ---
And that’s a bit weird
as a song inside that world,
[05:35] ---
but I feel it creates a link
to Kacchan as well.
[05:37] ---
Oh, I get it.
[05:38] ---
- It's a song that Kacchan uploaded.
- Lots of songs.
[05:40] ---
You can think about the moments
when he uploads all the songs.
[05:44] ---
That's what that's about.
[05:46] ---
I get teary just listening to it,
since it reminds me of the first episode.
[05:49] ---
I hear you.
[05:51] ---
I want to sing "It's Okay" with
you guys, just like we did "Crossfire."
[05:55] ---
It's you, it's you, it's because of you
[05:56] ---
A song with lyrics, melody, and arrangement by
vocaloid producer Chinozo, whose masterpiece
"Goodbye Sengen" is a megahit
with more than 100 million views on YouTube.
[05:56] ---
"It's Okay" by KIKUNOYU
[05:57] ---
There were days I thought that
[06:00] ---
It's me, it's me, it's only me
[06:03] ---
It's only me who thought that
[06:03] ---
A somewhat nostalgic world view that feels like
taking peeks at memories of Akira's childhood
is woven together in this song with a beautiful melody
and KIKUNOYU's gentle voice.
[06:05] ---
You don't have to say "I love you"
[06:10] ---
It's okay, it's okay
as long as you're nearby
[06:12] ---
This is a song very suited for Akira to sing,
as he will later challenge himself
to a new dream as a member of PROTOSTAR.
[06:15] ---
Even though I'm so unsightly
[06:19] ---
It's okay, it's okay
[06:19] ---
This collaboration came to fruit
from the fact that Kikunosuke Toya is a fan of Chinozo.
[06:22] ---
Only your happiness assured
[06:27] ---
It's because I can keep believing
[06:37] ---
SONGS FROM THE ONLINE SINGER DAYS
[06:37] ---
Starting with KIKUNOYU's "It's Okay,"
PROTOSTAR has many songs
[06:41] ---
from the days when the members
were active as online singers.
[06:46] ---
There are others inside the "UniteUp!" universe.
[06:50] ---
Like for me, there's "In A Dream."
[06:53] ---
And Banri has the song called "Partition."
[06:57] ---
There are songs that were hits
inside that universe.
[07:00] ---
And you feel like you want people
to listen to them too, right?
[07:03] ---
That's just it. Ryo-chan sings in a way
that you seldom hear, you know?
[07:07] ---
You know, that's so true.
[07:08] ---
The really gentle parts are sung
in such a delicate manner.
[07:08] ---
As an online singer who is getting famous for cover versions of famous love songs with heartrending lyrics
and a sweet singing voice, EVAN sings
this mid-ballad in a captivating manner.
[07:08] ---
"Partition" by EVAN
[07:12] ---
And when there's a swell, you ride
that groove and sing along with it.
[07:16] ---
- I was surprised the first time I heard the song.
- It’s so sweet.
[07:16] ---
His personality has a playful side despite having a beautiful appearance,
but within this song he sings a duality of sensitivity
accompanied by a piano and a wild,
raw emotion while a guitar strums heavily.
[07:19] ---
- It really is sweet.
- Yeah.
[07:21] ---
There's a part where I soften my voice.
[07:23] ---
In that part, they told me, "Please demonstrate
all your talents as a voice actor."
[07:24] ---
With rich yet fresh vocals that linger at the ear,
various images are shown to the listeners.
This song is a great show for the breadth
of emotions expressed through tones.
[07:28] ---
They told me,
"Please sing with a very soft voice."
[07:32] ---
So I did just that.
Did it feel sweet to you?
[07:35] ---
- I felt it.
- So sweet.
[07:37] ---
The sugar content was way too high.
[07:39] ---
- But I'm a fan of "In A Dream."
- Oh, really?
[07:42] ---
That Japanese feel?
[07:43] ---
- Oh, it's really great.
- You know, what is it...
[07:43] ---
"Suzu" is established for covering famous songs
that are timeless classics
and is popular for his cover songs
sung with a straightforward, strong spirit.
[07:43] ---
"In A Dream" by Suzu
[07:45] ---
It’s that thing you hear
in the background.
[07:47] ---
I'm not too versed with music, but...
[07:49] ---
- Like a sense of tempo?
- The “chan-chaka” thing?
[07:51] ---
Right, that!
[07:51] ---
With his cool-headed, reticent personality,
he is the most stable member of the group.
This song that you somehow
feel nostalgic and reminiscent is his forte.
[07:52] ---
Oh, but for Suzu, I like how he sings,
or rather his voice, to begin with.
[07:56] ---
Oh, thanks!
[07:57] ---
Amon's... How do I say it?
Slightly high-toned voice?
[07:59] ---
Emotional swaying from romance is expressed
with a straightforward, strong spirited voice
harboring strength and transience.
Suzu's voice comfortably enters the listener's mind
and provides courage and hope.
[08:02] ---
- That key was a bit high, huh?
- Yeah, I'd never be able to sing that.
[08:05] ---
- Yeah.
- We can't.
[08:06] ---
- You can say the same for me.
- Oh no, no.
[08:08] ---
It's the same for everyone.
[08:09] ---
But when you listen to the song,
the lyrics just sink right in.
[08:15] ---
Next, the song chosen by
Ryotaro Yamaguchi, who voices Banri Naoe,
[08:16] ---
WHAT IS THE SONG CHOSEN BY RYOTARO YAMAGUCHI,
VOICE ACTOR FOR BANRI NAOE?
[08:20] ---
is that legendary song...
[08:23] ---
I chose "TARGET" from Anela!
[08:27] ---
Rin and Maoto, played by Yoshiki Nakajima
and Soma Saito, sing this song.
[08:27] ---
Ryotaro Yamaguchi's choice:
"TARGET" by Anela
[08:31] ---
Maoto Tsujido
V.A. Yoshiki Nakajima
[08:32] ---
This is a song that the legendary idols
Anela sang before they retired.
[08:36] ---
Lin Otsuki
V.A. Soma Saito
[08:39] ---
And the video was uploaded to YouTube.
[08:43] ---
And ever since, it's totally been
on repeat for a while.
[08:46] ---
- There's something about it that's addicting.
- Totally!
[08:48] ---
The sound, too.
[08:51] ---
- Right!
- I love that beginning part.
[08:53] ---
It sounds like it’d liven up
an audience during a show.
[08:56] ---
And just when I was thinking about
how this will show up in the anime,
[09:00] ---
and then it came out in the first episode!
[09:02] ---
Yeah!
[09:03] ---
- Man, that was amazing!
- It was on target.
[09:05] ---
When you see it with the visuals,
it was awesome.
[09:07] ---
That concert scene at the beginning
of the first episode!
[09:10] ---
It seriously was like watching
an actual live performance of idols.
[09:14] ---
I'm a fan of idols to begin with.
[09:17] ---
So I've watched DVDs
of live performances, too.
[09:19] ---
It was like, "This totally feels like
watching a live concert DVD."
[09:22] ---
- You could even say it's even more amazing.
- Yeah!
[09:24] ---
- Because it's an anime, the camera work...
- It spun around!
[09:27] ---
They spin around like they're recording
on a drone or something.
[09:30] ---
And there was the birds-eye view, too.
[09:32] ---
And that was the very beginning,
[09:35] ---
so it builds up the excitement
and "this anime is going to be amazing."
[09:39] ---
Right.
[09:40] ---
And when those two voices combine,
it's so wonderful.
[09:43] ---
It just sinks right into your ears.
[09:45] ---
There are so many more songs from Anela.
[09:47] ---
I'm really looking forward to how they’ll be
incorporated into the story within the anime.
[09:52] ---
Indeed!
[09:53] ---
Sleep on my chest
[09:53] ---
Displaying their skills as always being
an active top idol unit ever since their debut,
this songs captivates with overwhelming
vocal talent and dance performance.
[09:56] ---
I can't miss it, you are on target
[10:00] ---
- You're TARGET
- Moving all day & night
[10:02] ---
Sensitive to Search
[10:02] ---
Challenging and provocative lyrics
riding on pounding beats show never-ending
aspiration of pushing oneself higher and higher,
as well as a message for fans to experience the world created thereof.
[10:04] ---
Pride resides in these Eyes on TARGET
[10:08] ---
Inside heart, shoot it into you
[10:16] ---
A flash of light beckons eternity
[10:24] ---
Shoot into your obedient heart
[10:40] ---
Hey, it’s gonna be alright
[10:44] ---
The next group to introduce
the allure of the songs is...
[10:45] ---
THE ONE WHO WILL INTRODUCE THE ALLURE OF A "UNITEUP!" SONG IS...
[10:48] ---
I’m Magura Sukegawa, and I voice
Daiki Takao from LEGIT. A pleasure to be here.
[10:48] ---
DAIKI TAKAO
VOICED BY
MAGURA SUKEGAWA
[10:53] ---
LEGIT
Skillful idols who polished
their "authentic" performance to aim for the top!
[10:54] ---
Each of them polished their "authentic"
performance to aim for the top to form
[10:58] ---
the skillful idol group LEGIT!
[11:03] ---
So, what song was chosen
[11:04] ---
WHAT IS THE SONG CHOSEN BY MAGURA SUKEGAWA,
VOICE ACTOR FOR DAIKI TAKAO?
[11:05] ---
by Magura Sukegawa, who voices
the leader of LEGIT, Daiki Takao?
[11:11] ---
I chose "ON MY WAY"!
[11:13] ---
Towards the end of the third episode,
[11:13] ---
Magura Sukegawa's choice:
"ON MY WAY" by LEGIT
[11:16] ---
we first introduced this song to everyone.
[11:19] ---
Of course there are many cool aspects to it,
including the dance.
[11:23] ---
But in this song,
LEGIT is properly rapping, so to say.
[11:29] ---
I personally feel that's the strongest
and coolest aspect.
[11:33] ---
And I feel it's a strength
that the other units don't possess.
[11:38] ---
So I would be delighted if you listened
to the song enough to memorize it.
[11:44] ---
A real concert venue,
with real stage setup...
[11:49] ---
I can kind of imagine how we would
be performing on such a stage.
[11:55] ---
The depictions are so close to reality
that I was simply in awe
[12:00] ---
of the fact that our characters were dancing
to the songs that feature our voices.
[12:06] ---
My part isn't that difficult as a rap,
[12:10] ---
but how I vocalize,
or how it feels like hip-hop,
[12:14] ---
and I've never sang songs before
that had a strong rap presence.
[12:18] ---
So I had to make sure
I didn't end up sounding cute.
[12:22] ---
A bit cool, and maybe a touch of evil.
[12:25] ---
It was difficult to showcase myself
in such a manner.
[12:29] ---
So personally,
I had a hard time with that aspect.
[12:32] ---
LEGIT's charm lies in their "authentic" performances.
In this "upper" tune that performance is on perfect display.
[12:32] ---
"ON MY WAY" by LEGIT
[12:34] ---
- Yes
- I don't have time to play
[12:37] ---
- Yes
- To the sun that never sets
[12:39] ---
Yes
[12:40] ---
You break free from the game
quicker than anyone else
[12:42] ---
Daiki Takao's powerful voice, Eishiro Nijo's calm yet passionate voice,
and Fuga Togo's voice filled with sex appeal
combine brilliantly. The rapid dialogue
among the three and the hectic evolution in the chorus is alluring.
[12:43] ---
- On My Way
- Woo hoo
[12:46] ---
The same ol' things aren't enough,
too much vibes
[12:48] ---
- On My Way
- Woo hoo
[12:51] ---
From start to finish climax
[12:52] ---
With the underlying hip-hop tastes from the 2000s,
this aggressive track with distortion
is the base for them to sing
"we are unstoppable." A bold, truly "LEGIT" song
[12:53] ---
Overtaking and just taking off
[12:56] ---
Only accelerate, we never stop
[12:58] ---
Woo hoo
[13:00] ---
We are unstoppable, we gonna go high
[13:03] ---
Unstoppable, Gonna go high
[13:05] ---
Unstoppable, Gonna go high
[13:08] ---
Unstoppable, Gonna go high
[13:10] ---
Keep yellin' it out
[13:14] ---
Everybody go loud with it
(Go loud with it)
[13:16] ---
Everybody just jump with it
(Jump with it)
[13:18] ---
Everybody just scream with it
[13:20] ---
Everybody get stupid
[13:27] ---
LEGIT also has unique solo songs as well.
[13:27] ---
LEGIT'S SOLO SONGS
[13:31] ---
First, we have "call" sung by Daiki Takao.
[13:34] ---
I believe everyone has their own
interpretation for this song,
[13:34] ---
"call" by Daiki Takao
[13:38] ---
whether it be for a friend or a lover.
[13:40] ---
But it's something like "it's been a while
since we met. It was always like this, right?"
[13:46] ---
The lyrics "hello, hello" is what you say
when you pick up the phone.
[13:51] ---
A solo number from LEGIT's leader Daiki Takao.
A song where he pours out his emotions
when he has to deal with his actions.
[13:51] ---
"call" by Daiki Takao
[13:51] ---
This song didn't have a title at first,
so I received just the lyrics.
[13:54] ---
As expressed in the lyrics "words, voice, this song run around, and someday become a light for someone,"
this song puts his agony and determination in the forefront.
The worldview is consistent with his first song "igno" as well.
[13:56] ---
When I heard the lyrics, I took "hello, hello"
as someone greeting you on the phone.
[14:01] ---
Like a friend you're talking to
for the first time in a while over the phone.
[14:04] ---
Or when you talk about where you stand
in the world to someone over the phone.
[14:04] ---
Though he doesn't raise his voice, there is a charm
in Daiki's singing voice that can sense inner passion hidden in his heart.
The song is created by MONJOE of DATS, an up-and-coming band.
[14:09] ---
Or you listen to someone
telling a story instead.
[14:11] ---
You just have times when you get emotional
talking to a friend for the first time in a while.
[14:15] ---
I visualized this song as
expressing something of that nature.
[14:21] ---
That's why I was given an opportunity
to name this song "call."
[14:25] ---
I thought it would be interesting if you knew
things like that while you watched.
[14:30] ---
The song "good time."
[14:31] ---
(Shin)nosuke wrote the lyrics.
[14:32] ---
The lyrics were written by Shinnosuke Morikage,
the voice of Eishiro Nijo.
This solo piece for Eishiro was written in Morikage's home verandah.
[14:32] ---
"good time" by Eishiro Nijo
[14:35] ---
And (Shin)nosuke's... Well, we sing rap and stuff,
[14:39] ---
so we often have times where our lyrics rhyme.
[14:41] ---
Feelings of inability to be honest to anyone is expressed with unique word choices such as "balloon" and "fluffy,"
and a singing similar to a "speech" that directly transmits emotions enhances the uniqueness of the song.
[14:43] ---
And instead, (Shin)nosuke wrote the lyrics
keeping in mind to intentionally avoid rhyming.
[14:48] ---
And I think that's a really new thing.
[14:50] ---
That's why, consequently,
that song's good parts are brought out.
[14:50] ---
Recording lasted for two days with many takes, and in some places
vocals similar to demo reels and ad-libbed takes were used in the final production
The track's basic theme is a live performance. One should also notice wordplay that makes words stand out
[14:55] ---
I think it would be interesting to take note
of things like that while you listen to the songs.
[15:01] ---
Fuga's songs tend to have a good groove.
[15:04] ---
He tends to have very swingy songs
that bounce around all over the place.
[15:04] ---
Fuga Togo's solo song.
A love song with a straightforward expression,
which is unusual for a song being from a LEGIT member.
[15:04] ---
"Please! Please!" by Fuga Togo
[15:07] ---
You could say that for this song as well.
[15:09] ---
Between my "call" and "good time,"
there’s this song "Please! Please!"
[15:12] ---
The lyrics are honest renditions of excitement and anxiety from romance, and Ryuichiro Sakata who voices Fuga
sings this song at times with maturity,
and at other times with a cute, sweet voice.
[15:15] ---
and I think the one
that gets stuck in your head
[15:17] ---
and the one you can groove
along with most is likely Fuga's song.
[15:21] ---
As if in response to the lyrics and melody,
the drums and guitar express the excitement of romance
with sound in this track to create a sense of unity for the song
and the breakthrough catchiness of the chorus
that just makes you want to hum along.
[15:22] ---
You can dance to this song on TikTok
with what they call a "Puri-Puri Dance."
[15:27] ---
And I feel Fuga’s song
is the closest to the most modern type of song.
[15:37] ---
The next person to introduce
the allure of their group is...
[15:38] ---
THE ONE WHO WILL INTRODUCE THE ALLURE OF A "UNITEUP!" SONG IS...
[15:42] ---
GAKUTO HARUKA
VOICED BY
masa
[15:42] ---
I'm masa, and I voice Gakuto Haruka
from JAXX/JAXX. It's great to be here.
[15:47] ---
JAXX/JAXX
A singer-songwriter and four former members of an idol group
created this band-idol group with the desire
to perform the music they want to deliver.
[15:47] ---
A singer-songwriter and four
former members of an idol group,
[15:51] ---
with the desire to perform
the music they want to deliver,
[15:55] ---
formed strong bonds
to create the band-idol JAXX/JAXX.
[16:00] ---
What song was chosen by masa,
[16:01] ---
WHAT IS THE SONG CHOSEN BY MASA,
VOICE ACTOR FOR GAKUTO HARUKA?
[16:02] ---
who voices Gakuto Haruka, the only
singer-songwriter of the group?
[16:07] ---
I chose "STORM's EYE" by JAXX/JAXX.
[16:11] ---
JAXX/JAXX are the only band-idol group
in the "UniteUp!" world.
[16:11] ---
masa's choice:
"STORM's EYE" by JAXX/JAXX
[16:15] ---
I feel this song gives the band vibes the most
of all the songs that have been released so far.
[16:20] ---
The stage that JAXX/JAXX members
are striving to reach in the future
[16:25] ---
can be seen best with this song,
and that's why I chose this song.
[16:31] ---
And this song was created before
they were scouted by sMiLea Production.
[16:36] ---
It’s when Gakuto met Izumi's group
[16:38] ---
and JAXX/JAXX started being active
with the indies crowd.
[16:42] ---
This was the first song, so it has
their ambitious feelings of "Let's go!"
[16:47] ---
I feel like everything pertinent to JAXX/JAXX
is all packed into this one song.
[16:52] ---
And the storm's eye is literally a central figure.
[16:57] ---
To the main characters, to Akira's group,
JAXX/JAXX will be... how to put it?
[17:00] ---
They won't be directly interacting,
[17:02] ---
but they're going to get caught up,
and get stimulated,
[17:06] ---
so that aspect creates layers
with this song as well.
[17:09] ---
As for lyrics, I have to say
for that part in the second verse...
[17:13] ---
"Anyone can be gifted,
but you're a breeze by yourself."
[17:16] ---
"Hold hands and spin around,
dive in the groove"
[17:19] ---
"Listen to the Big Bang
bursting from my throat." That part.
[17:24] ---
Gifted can also mean talented, right?
[17:26] ---
And Gakuto, the character I play,
is someone overflowing with talent.
[17:30] ---
He's charismatic, he can write songs,
and has the potential to be a star.
[17:34] ---
He really is talented,
and a great star in the making.
[17:36] ---
But he feels that it can't be done
with his talents alone.
[17:42] ---
Because he has the JAXX/JAXX members,
he can chase after his dream.
[17:46] ---
That's what he sings about.
[17:48] ---
This really shows how much
JAXX/JAXX feels like a family.
[17:51] ---
The lyrics really express that aspect well,
so I really love it.
[17:54] ---
Typhoon...
[17:55] ---
Even the biggest typhoons originated
from a gathering of small breezes
A band, an anime... No matter how ingenious you are,
it's difficult to fully create something alone
[17:55] ---
"STORM's EYE" by JAXX/JAXX
[17:58] ---
The entire world will hear our heartbeat
[18:04] ---
A masterpiece is created because people
with differing sense of values join forces
If the five JAXX/JAXX members combine their powers,
they might fly to an unpredictable place.
"STORM's EYE" packs in all of that excitement.
[18:05] ---
It's unpredictable
[18:07] ---
Tonight, this is the storm's eye
[18:12] ---
No time to cry
[18:15] ---
A fun piece looking forward to JAXX/JAXX and "UniteUp!"
becoming the storm's eye in 2023,
and to that moment where they surprise the entire world.
[18:16] ---
You're getting caught in it
[18:20] ---
Extend your arm, we'll grab it, so let’s fly!
[18:27] ---
Wow! We Are Storm's Eye
[18:31] ---
Wow! Our stardom
[18:34] ---
Wow! Resonate this song to that star
[18:42] ---
THE SONGS SINGER-SONGWRITER masa
CREATED FOR HIMSELF
[18:43] ---
Masa is an active singer-songwriter
in his own right,
[18:47] ---
so he’s also in charge of writing
and composing songs for "Haruka."
[18:52] ---
Before forming JAXX/JAXX,
[18:54] ---
Gakuto had uploaded many songs
to video websites as "Haruka."
[18:58] ---
And I was able to write the lyrics and compose
the music for several of those songs.
[19:05] ---
One is a song called "Mayday."
[19:07] ---
Back then, a certain death-game
battle-royale type movie was really popular.
[19:07] ---
In love, but too embarrassed to honestly say you're in love...
What to do with this feeling? Help! A "mayday" signal is sent.
This song is a cute expression of a 15-year-old's bittersweet,
innocent unrequited romance.
[19:07] ---
"Mayday" by Haruka
[19:15] ---
And if he was living in current times,
I'm sure Gakuto would’ve seen it as well.
[19:17] ---
A true-to-life lyrical expression unique to Haruka
and a catchy melody reminds one of that hesitant feeling
that everyone surely has felt when falling in love.
[19:19] ---
The "if a death-game like in a drama started,
just you and me" part.
[19:26] ---
This is something
a 23-year-old wouldn't write.
[19:27] ---
To pull out the cuteness, percussions and an acoustic guitar were used to create a refreshing and bright melody.
From a downbeat that would make you want
to clap your hands, to a completely different upbeat.
Along with this, Haruka’s contrasting cute rap is a must-listen.
[19:29] ---
A straightforward thought,
with lyrics that reflect what you see.
[19:33] ---
So I think what it's like to be 15
just came out on its own.
[19:37] ---
And so it's one of my favorite points.
[19:39] ---
And the other song that I got to create
is a song called "SuperStar."
[19:45] ---
He's chasing after a great senior from Anela.
[19:45] ---
The final song uploaded as "Haruka"
before the formation of JAXX/JAXX
[19:45] ---
"SuperStar" by Haruka
[19:47] ---
That's something that I see
overlapping with myself.
[19:50] ---
I started being a singer-songwriter
because I was following
[19:51] ---
The song was created with the theme "my dream" but now it's perfect as the dream of all JAXX/JAXX members.
Powerful, positive lyrics standing up towards one dream from "the worst everyday life" is very characteristic.
[19:52] ---
the footsteps of someone I admired as well.
[19:54] ---
I felt that surely Gakuto's feelings
and my feelings were one and the same.
[19:58] ---
That a singer-songwriter
would write a song of that nature.
[19:59] ---
A sound and beat where a break leaves an impression, smartphone vibrations, and a telephone-like voice changer.
Those are some of the gimmicks
making full use of this voice in this song.
[20:01] ---
I wrote about the feelings of someone
chasing their dream,
[20:04] ---
so you don't have to want to be a star, but if
you're after something like maybe entrance exams...
[20:07] ---
If you have a dream, I'm sure
this song will resonate with you.
[20:12] ---
And we cannot forget one more song
that’s symbolic of this series.
[20:12] ---
A SYMBOLIC SONG FOR "UNITEUP!"
[20:18] ---
The opening theme, "Unite up!"
[20:20] ---
Aiming for that advancing stage
facing front-and-center with rising hope
[20:22] ---
"Dreams and bonds, unite and bloom proudly."
Packed with concepts of the story,
this opening theme hoists the project's title.
[20:22] ---
The opening theme, "Unite up!"
[20:25] ---
Waiting to grasp the light
on the other side of the door to dreams
[20:32] ---
We reach for our open skies
with everything we've got
[20:32] ---
All 11 members of PROTOSTAR, LEGIT, and JAXX/JAXX
participated in singing and repeat "UniteUp!"
to the vast skies leading to a radiant future.
This song is surely the anthem of Project UniteUp!
[20:39] ---
Unite! Up! Infinite Heart
[20:43] ---
Riding on that first gale
[20:46] ---
Boldly Unite! Up! Infinite Heart
[20:50] ---
Unite and bloom proudly
[20:54] ---
I felt this was perfect for our opening theme.
[20:54] ---
Opening Theme "Unite up!"
[20:57] ---
Right.
[20:57] ---
Everyone joins forces as one in the first verse.
It really is us uniting up.
[21:02] ---
Definitely.
[21:03] ---
It's like we're doing what the song title says.
[21:06] ---
It's that kind of song.
[21:08] ---
And the lyrics are always
looking to the future.
[21:12] ---
You know how the chorus
starts with "the door to dreams"?
[21:16] ---
I think this is a key phrase
for "UniteUp!" as a whole as well.
[21:18] ---
Yeah! I see it so often.
[21:21] ---
And "the door to dreams" is a phrase
that shows up on the official website as well.
[21:24] ---
I remember recording this song and
[21:28] ---
I kept thinking about the various aspects
of what that might mean.
[21:31] ---
Well, the first thing I thought
was pretty straightforward.
[21:34] ---
"So this is the voice of UniteUp!"
[21:37] ---
And I remember being touched by that.
[21:40] ---
I had previously thought that just
one voice, my voice alone, needs to be heard.
[21:45] ---
But when everyone overlaps, someone fills in
with a sound that I can't create on my own.
[21:51] ---
And that would create more depth in the sound
by going up to a higher pitch.
[21:55] ---
And when I thought about how all of that
is leading up to the climax of the song "UniteUp!"
[21:59] ---
I thought, "Oh, it's a good thing to participate
in a group. Groups are great."
[22:03] ---
I was able to see an image when I heard
everyone singing together.
[22:07] ---
Such as the scene of a live concert,
[22:10] ---
or like the visuals in the opening sequence.
I had a vague feeling like it.
[22:16] ---
And I don't think that's something
that happens all that often.
[22:19] ---
I haven't experienced things like that often,
and by that I mean seeing scenery through music.
[22:25] ---
I felt that titles like this
are created from the support
[22:29] ---
from all sorts of people in that manner,
[22:33] ---
and that makes our feelings
all the more... emotional?
[22:37] ---
I do feel that emotions
are riding on this song.
[22:40] ---
Akira is in a place like a tunnel of light.
[22:43] ---
When he touches this triangle, with a whoosh,
the world expands around him.
[22:47] ---
And on stage, a 3D version of JAXX/JAXX
and Legit are there in the opening sequence.
[22:54] ---
And it's like we go between
2D and 3D from there.
[22:58] ---
That's like, symbolic of this project, of us.
[23:02] ---
Because we're 3D.
[23:04] ---
And it's like we want people to enjoy
what we do, and not just the anime.
[23:08] ---
I feel like that's a hidden intent.
[23:10] ---
This series is a bit special, after all.
[23:12] ---
I'm sure that for the viewers,
they first enjoy the anime.
[23:15] ---
And then, take one step in our direction.
[23:18] ---
We've really become something that
you can go back and forth like that.
[23:21] ---
That's right. That's how they engineered it.
[23:23] ---
It's rather impressive.
[23:26] ---
And that's great, too.
[23:27] ---
It's something to watch for.
[23:29] ---
Unique songs will add color to the series.
[23:33] ---
Why don't you enjoy UniteUp! and take note
of the music as well as the anime?
[23:43] ---
Next week on UniteUp! PROTOSTAR faces
a key obstacle for idols, which is dancing.
[23:50] ---
How will the three face this difficult challenge?
[23:54] ---
UniteUp! Episode 4, "Let's Prevail & Unite."
[23:54] ---
#04 LET'S PREVAIL & UNITE
